I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve, and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

People were either gasping or cheering this speech when I first saw this film. I think I said what Susan Sarandon did: "Oh, my."
What Naomi said. Still one of the best things Ron Shelton ever did. Thanks, John.
Outlawing the designated hitter. Can't argue with that.
God damn American League T-ballers ...
The irony of the Oswald claim doesn't escape me :)
Naomi,
I always figured that Crash calculated that he would elicit precisely that response from someone like Annie.
le0pard13,
Definitely Shelton's best directorial effort. Although I also really liked Dark Blue, which was based on a James Ellroy story.
Charlie,
Give 'em hell, brother! :)
Aggie,
Ah yes. You refer, of course, to Costner's turn as conspiracy theorist Jim Garrison in Oliver Stone's JFK. Good catch.
Ah, yes. DARK BLUE. Likely Kurt Russell's best acting performance. I thought he was robbed in not getting an Oscar nom for that one. But then again, the studio released the film too early in the year instead of in the fall (where The Academy could have really considered it and not forgotten about Russell's work). It's still an underrated film. Good one, John.
p.s., you probably already know this about BULL DURHAM (from IMDB):
"Kurt Russell helped Ron Shelton develop the script and was originally penciled in to play Crash, the part that went to Kevin Costner. After the film was made, Russell was so impressed, he actually wrote fan letters to Costner and Shelton"
It's another reason I think Kurt is one class guy.
le0pard13,
Indeed. Russell and Costner ended up making a movie together a few years later called 3000 Miles to Graceland. A highly underrated crime flick, it's one of my guilty pleasures.
