HORROR WEEK - WAR OF THE WORLDS

If there is one movie that makes me think of Halloween, it's the 1953 adaptation of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds. For the last two decades, I've made it a point to watch this movie on, or just before, Halloween. I enjoyed Spielberg's 2005 adaptation, but the original will always be number one in my heart. I guess I'm just old school.

Sometimes, when I'm feeling really old school, I'll listen to the 1938 broadcast of Mercury Theatre's War of the Worlds radio play. If you're interested in listening to it, you can download it from the Mercury Theatre on the Air website. It's also available, in several parts, on Youtube.

Happy Halloween, everyone. Be sure to check back tonight for the final installment of my week-long scream queen series.

You don't know how happy it makes me that you referenced the original, and not that remake from a couple of years back. Good one! Thanks, John.

le0pard13,
I actually enjoyed the recent remake. It was a good movie. That being said, the original was a classic in the genre which will be studied by cinema historians for years to come, while Spielberg's recent effort will probably be be forgotten.

In terms of just pure entertainment value, I'll take the original over the Tom Cruise version. It was just a very poor take on the story.
