THIS DAY IN CRIME HISTORY: MARCH 24, 1934

On this date in 1934, Harry Pierpont and Charles Makley were sentenced to die in the electric chair for the murder of Allen County, OH Sheriff Jesse Sarber. Sheriff Sarber was shot and killed when the outlaws broke their friend John Dillinger out of the Allen County jail in Lima, OH. Two days after Pierpont and Makley were sentenced, their accomplice Russell Clark was sentenced to life in prison for the murder.
